Smell Bound

I have written before about my keen sense of smell. Brian picks on me every now and then because I will randomly say "it smells like California" or campfire, barbeque or cigarettes or some unique scent that I often cannot place immediately but will wake up in the middle of the night and know exactly what the smell reminded me of. Last week the boys and I were at the pool and I was dipping a banana into peanut butter to give to Nolan and I had this HUGE deja vu when I was in kindergarten, sitting at the little wooden table eating bananas with peanut butter as my snack. It was such a vivid recall that I REALLY felt like I was there.

Research states that as humans we "see" our world mostly though the senses of sight and sound, and that we often suppress our awareness of what our smell tells us. But ALL flavors come from smell. Without this sense we could not tell the difference in taste between say, Godiva chocolate and that chalky dollar store Easter chocolate, or a fine glass of red shiraz and a Seagrams wine cooler. Hmmm... this would make me a very cheap date but losing the ability to anticipate the sheer pleasure for the taste of a perfect bite of cheesecake, deplorable.

My whole point of this story is that stepping out of my house this morning to walk Creed dog, I smelled Fall. It was subtle and sleepy but it was there. It is just waiting for it's turn to arrive.

Here are some photos from the past few days.

Love & Light,

Hanging with buddies Jack, Charlie and Sam.

Nolan climbed the rock wall by himself. He wanted his photo taken at the top.

Always interesting from a different point of view.

Swinging. Nolan has officially outgrown baby swings.
