It's the most wonderful time...

Of the year. I have such mixed feelings about Christmas time. We have all these things we HAVE to do (shopping, wrapping, baking, parties, traveling, etc.) yet we are supposed to slow down and appreciate the real meaning. It kind of reminds me of the magazines that have the ads about Losing the Weight Now! and The Best Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Recipe Ever!, written on the same front cover. It is like they contradict each other. How can you lose weight if you are eating that fudge? And how are you supposed to appreciate the real meaning of Christmas if you are so wrapped up in... wrapping?

Every year I vow the same. I am shopping earlier, I am not stressing about the perfect gift, I will not lose my sanity over writing 100 Christmas cards or wrapping all the gifts. And each year, I find myself staring at my bedroom with bags of gifts, rolls of paper, stacks of Christmas cards and to do lists and I feel myself going slightly numb. So how can I find the holiday spirit this year?

I can take photographs of what I feel captures that spirit. And I can think about my kids faces when they get that gift they were really hoping for, or my high school Chemistry teacher's happiness when he gets our Christmas card or drive around and look at the beautiful lights and crank Alvin and the Chipmunks and watch my boys dance. It  kind of reminds me of that scene in the movie The Polar Express when the boy rang that little jingle bell and only he and his sister could hear it. His parents and those who did not "believe" could not hear the bell. I just need to believe that amongst the chaos of the holidays, the spirit, the joy, the love is always ringing, LOUDLY.

Here are some photos that capture that spirit.

Love & Light,

Stacy
