A Good Place to Start...

Is at the beginning. I had my first LARGE family photo shoot today. The family was celebrating their grandmother's 84th birthday. It was wonderful to see so many people there celebrating this woman. Thanks to my good friend Whitney Logan, my fellow photographer in crime, who accompanied me on the shoot. You can check out her beautiful blog and photography at  She is very talented and has been and continues to be a great motivator for me to keep taking photos.

I am reading this book called Creative Girl, The Ultimate Guide for Turning Talent and Creativity into a Real Career by Katharine Sise. Sise says that the true value in a creative life is the fulfillment of creating just for the sake of expression. Sometimes people who dream about doing something they love get caught up in the logistics. The financial piece, the time commitment, the hoops one has to jump through to get your dreams off the ground. And then the ego mind taunts you with questions meant to raise fear. Like if we are good enough, or what if we fail? So instead of challenging the reality of the thoughts, we pack up our dreams in boxes and toss them in the attic.

Our biggest obstacles are ourselves. And I think the answer lies in the quote above. The true value is not in the finished product or the recognition you may or may not receive for your work. But the fulfillment in expression through creativity is what feeds the soul. Whatever is a byproduct of that fulfillment, is just the icing.

So go climb up in your attic and unpack your box of dreams...

Love & Light,

Sweet TinkerBell graced me with a visit this morning.

Ellie, one of the very adorable girls I photographed today.

Got to love a man that bakes, especially pumpkin cheesecake!
